Spend the money you save on getting the oil analysed every 2-3 changes. My old mk3 petrol had 230k on it when sold and is still going and that was 2 years ago. Always changed at 12.5k and was fine.
Oil change with Castrol magnetec and genuine ford filter each 15k miles (which I know is above the recommended 12.5k). Fuel injector nuts done up tighter when seals leaking - but seals not replaced. Runs a bit rough on start up when cold- suspect glow plug(s) . Last time I did the oil change I stripped the sump thread.
It's on 141,000 miles and had its timing belt replaced about a year ago. Full service with oil change was around April. Engine's oil level is normal and there's no leaks around the engine. Turbo failure is a well known problem of all 16 Valve versions of the 1.6 TDCI. Both the 90 HP and 109 HP versions are affected by this problem. The problem is mainly caused by the small oil capacity of this engine. The small oil capacity combined with long service intervals results in severe contamination and disintegration of the engine oil.

There are two main diesel engine options – a 1.6 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi – with the former available in 95PS, 115PS and 105PS forms, and the latter in 140PS and 163PS guises.
